Description
Eleanor Roosevelt was more than just a First Lady. She was a human rights activist, a diplomat, a writer, and a champion for women's and civil rights. During the Great Depression, she worked alongside her husband, President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to implement the New Deal, which aimed to put Americans back to work and stabilize the economy.
As World War II loomed, Eleanor continued to fight for social justice and equality. She supported the establishment of the United Nations and served as the first Chairperson of the UN Commission on Human Rights. Her advocacy work helped to lay the foundation for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted by the UN in 1948.
Throughout her life, Eleanor remained dedicated to advancing the cause of women's rights. She was a forceful advocate for women's suffrage and worked tirelessly to promote equal pay and opportunities for women in the workforce. Her legacy as a trailblazer for human rights and social justice continues to inspire generations of activists and changemakers to this day.
