Description
The Navajo people have a deep spiritual connection to the Grand Canyon, which they refer to as "Tsékooh Hatsoh" or "the place where water runs through rocks." For the Navajo, the canyon is not just a geological feature, but a sacred site that holds great cultural significance. Many Navajo creation stories describe the canyon as the place where their ancestors emerged into the world, and it is still considered a place of power and healing today. The Navajo also rely on the canyon for sustenance, using its resources for food, medicine, and building materials. Despite centuries of colonization and displacement, the Navajo continue to maintain their connection to the canyon and work to protect it from threats like mining and tourism development.
